Anybody recognise these weird spheres on one of my chooks' egg shells? img2.jpg[/attachment:1992qijh] Pic 1 View attachment 1 img1.jpg[/attachment:1992qijh] Pic 2 - Microscopic View
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres A couple of my girls have similar things sometimes, although the patch is usually smaller than yours. I don't know what it is but it is amazing how often the same girls lay eggs with the same pattern of those things on them
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres Yes I have had the odd egg with one or two of these little balls on them, but nothing like yours......very fascinating. Perhaps, you could drain it and sell it on ebay??? Some one will buy it.
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres Wow, if the pattern looked like the Virgin Mary you'd make a killing on eBay!
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres just scratch a few off to make it look like the messiah ir elvis or MJ or something
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres When does the auction close? I wanna sneak in at the last minute 8) Amazing eggs. I have seen patches on eggs but not like that and I have never seen the lil balls on the eggs. cheers, ho-hum
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres Just an over the shoulder comment from a friend here. The second egg is a ''self-packing egg'' because it looks like the chook has been eating polystyrene!! ho-hum
Re: Chook egg weirdness - crust of spheres Sorry, meant to label the pics (now edited). The 2nd pic is a microscopic view. No polystyrene in their diet... Relief to hear others have witnessed this phenomenon... but did your chooks live a normal (long) life? Any concerns? Looks to me a lot like some sort of parasite eggs are inhabiting the intestine and getting calcified by the shell on its way out.
