Hmm, i was just reading the snail eating thread and it made me think of frog legs! I remember watching an episode of The Barefoot Bushman and he prepared cane toad legs.. I've also tried frogs legs in Indonesia, but it just tasted deep-fried.. I've dissected quite a few toads, and also have cut the legs of and had a look at the flesh, and there is quite a bit on the bigger ones, and especially considering that here in qld we can catch hundreds on some nights, i was wondering if anyone tried.. I used them for fish bait once but wasn't so successful.
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? When I was studying Ag at uni back in the 80s, we had to dissect cane toads. Some bright spark decided to eat 1 cane toad ovary-resulting in a trip to hospital and cardiac failure.
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? g'day kekal, saw an aboriginal cooking stint on abc i think and the guy there collected a number of bufo's and removed the rear legs skinned them and cooked them, he reckoned must be as good as frogs legs and good way to get rid of pests. up in fnq they get quiet large at times i've caught one i think was 600 grams but have heard of 1 kilo' models. suppose if you have plenty around then build toad proof cage and feed them up on dry dog food. so i'm sure if you do some googling you will find some answers after all if the crows can figure out which parts to not to eat then surely we can hey chuckle? len
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? Once upon a time, on a planet that was jumping with frogs, I ate frogs' legs. :kermit: Disappointing, they tasted just like chicken. I thought many Toads had interesting chemicals under their skin. Chemicals that could help you fly on your broomstick. :angel8:
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? from what i understand the toxin is in the skin in glands mostly as there are those who can't afford street medications who had taken to licking the critter to get some sort of elevation in euphoric splendor. the main toxins in 2 glands at back of head deadly stuff. len
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? If they ARE edible, someone could make a very nice dollar setting up a new export business to France! The problem is always the solution.
Re: Has anyone tried cane toad legs? I use mine as fertiliser, very high in phosphate. The bananas love them; and I would rather eat bananas than toads!!! I just toss them amongst the trees and let them rot down, but there is a mob in Darwin (FrogWatch) that makes Toad Juice for fertiliser.
lol michael great thinking hey, licensing what next? the venom comes natural with the beast?? and if it does become an export commodity i wouldn't hold me breathe for the beast to ever be eaten out so the say, once value comes into play people who collect them will want a steady income stream not a dimishing stream, like professional dingo hunters destroy enough the satisfy the contract but keep a future income stream going. do those who export or import venomous sankes need a toxin license?? doubt they will ever be collect from remote areas. anyhow surely the toads will be deceased when exported, so the toxin should be less accessable. len
