I have viewed the post about "Horizon seeds" and it alerted me to a problem I think we have about the supply of organic seed within Australia and indeed around the world. As far as I am aware most of Australias organic seed comes from the US, Europe and Israel. Given the political turmoil and world events this raises some serious supply issues for organic farmers in particular. Obviously we all need to start saving more seed and preserving it in local seed banks, but we need to think seriously about our bulk supply of open-pollinated varieties for organic food production. Are there any Australian organic seed producers ? Dunc

Re: Australian organic seed souces Eden Seeds have a good organic selection under the name Select Organics https://www.selectorganic.com.au
Re: Australian organic seed souces I got the impression these companies were seed retailers only. Do they actually have Australian seed growers suppling the seed ? I was told that the "select organic" seed source was from the United States ??? Dunc
Re: Australian organic seed souces Thanks Milifestyle. Greenpatch definately produce their own seed in Australia. I will check out the others too. Dunc
Re: Australian organic seed souces G'day Phoenix seeds in Tassie sell organic seed grown in Australia, and so does Select (not sure if all seeds but know it is some) cheers
Re: Australian organic seed souces Do you have any non-profit organizations dedicated to heirloom, open-pollinated and organic seed saving? If not, maybe it's time to start one?
Re: Australian organic seed sources Seed Savers Network near Byron Bay have seed savers all over Australia. This article has their address: https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s1251536.htm
Re: Australian organic seed sources Maybe not Australian, but many can be imported legally (Check Customs list). https://www.purefood.org/seeds.htm
UK seed sources I just web-stumbled across this UK seed source. They seem very much cheaper than most. https://www.gardenseeds.co.uk/valuefl.html Also https://www.chilternseed.co.uk has an amazing range of plants including a huge range of European food & flower heritage seed. Also herbs I had not heard of ( That is strange). Very easy to get carried away with their on-line ordering I NEED so much! I wish they had a wish list for virtual shopping like Amazon usa I have just made my first order. Very nice, helpful and obliging people to deal with The only drawback is checking every seed on the feral, futile Oz Customs list but that is not their fault. Do you know despite their authoritarian approach, customs manage to introduce a new problem on an almost monthly basis? A "helping" approach would be more productive and safe --HM Customs.
