Hi everyone - i am going to NZ next year and i'm keen to have a look at any permaculture farms or smallholders with permaculture principles. If you know of any let me know!
Re: visiting new zealand Hey Beeso ! I would definitely check out Rainbow Valley Farm: https://www.rainbowvalleyfarm.co.nz/ Other than that, I'm not sure. If you end up in Takaka, definitely let me know... that's where I live, and I could direct you to some local permaculturists. Not sure if Huck is around, but Robina most likely is. She's been in the field for a long time: https://www.greenworld-earthcare.org/aboutus.html Cheers ! == Dylan
Re: visiting new zealand What part of NZ will you be in? There's alot happening everywhere, and not all of it 'formal' so you won't necessarily find it on a website. Try the woofers system too.
Re: visiting new zealand starting in Auckland and finishing at a mates in Queenstown, its between a conference and meetings for the wife so Wwoofing is probably too time consuming this time round. The only place we won't head to is north of Auckland
Re: visiting new zealand Mate - probably won't be coming down to the fish place for new stocks until I've built my big system and even then I may find an alternate supplier. Would be glad to make a special trip though to see what you've been doing. Will PM when things have settled down a bit, pretty bad around here with the storm and all, though we are thankful to have got power back after 43 hours. Some will be out for 3 days :? . Bloody hard keeping barra alive for 43 hours with no power
Re: visiting new zealand well, in auckland only you can easily find the most popular Rainbow valley farms...as far as my knowledge is concerned they the best permaculture farms in auckland
Re: visiting new zealand I would advise any Australians who visited NZ to not take any preconeptions with them. The Kiwis are a remarkably hospitable and generous folks. A joy to visit. Great neighbours too. cheers,
Re: visiting new zealand It is a very beautiful country. There is a huge range of fascinating geography. I found some of the smaller off- the-beaten-track stuff the most interesting (like a guy who feeds eels ever day-I was with some little kids) Christchurch is nice especially around the University area. Are they filming "The Hobbit" in NZ at the moment? There may be a role for you? This time they probably won't tear down the Hobbit Houses- too good a theme park for the Japanese! Check out some of the little regional museums often surprisingly good, with great dioramas and interactive stuff. (I heard some Americans say " But didn't we discover Antarctica?" And "I know what 'lamingtons' are !- Rock cakes covered in co-co-nut"- I am told the food has improved.) Also regional markets and farmer's markets. They have also recently learnt how to make wine . Their cool climate whites are especially nice. I could quite happily live on their delicious and inexpensive green-lipped mussels. ( I will deny all this if you say an Australian said it) When i was there last there was an especially helpful and honest tourist guide not funded by advertorials. It looked like a newspaper- look out for it. Speaking NZlander "e" is sounded like a short 'i' as in 'Vit' ( a person who is an animal doctor.) The reverse for "i" Nz'sders are also very fond of plastc snakes and spiders-take some with you they are hard to buy there. NZds' also love saying 'six', especially if you mention first you are from Australia. : )
Re: visiting new zealand Yep! 8) i think I must have been a Hobbit in a previous life Thinking seriously( some days) of moving to Cooper Pedy SA
