What vegetable seeds will germinate for me in winter? I am in a frost free area (Brisbane). I would like to get stuff growing as I am preparing empty beds.
Re: Winter seedlings..What to grow now? Cosmic, Here are links to a couple of pages that provide this sort of info: https://edenseeds.com.au/content/planting.asp https://www.thelostseed.com.au/page63.htm Regards, Gary
Re: Winter seedlings..What to grow now? now is a great time for direct sowing. I do kale and Chinese cabbages Pak Bok Bak and so on... carrots, lettuce garlic and much more, beetroot if you like. You should take care that you don't sow the typical winter veggies now which take long time to mature, because it gets hotter within two month and soup time is over in September. I transplanted broccoli, but I am not sure if it's too late. peas maybe. potatoes.
Re: Winter seedlings..What to grow now? Kale, choy and beans all make sense as rogue ones are coming up. The garden was telling me the answer and I wasn't listening. I wish I could find out where my stealth chook is escaping from and scratching up the garden mysteriously then putting herself back in the pen before I go out there.
Re: Winter seedlings..What to grow now? Heaps of things will grow, it really doesn't get cold enough here to stop alot of things.. try Beetroot Broad beans Brussel sprouts Cabbage Carrot Celeriac Celery Collards (also Collard greens or Borekale) Endive Garlic Kale (also Borecole) Kohl Rabi Lettuce Mustard greens Onion Parsnip Peas Radish Shallots Silverbeet (also Swiss Chard or Mangold) Zucchini (also Courgette/Marrow) (from https://www.gardenate.com/?zone=3)
