Hi, I have recently arrived in Australia from the UK and I am looking for some information on Geo-thermic heating but find I'm getting lots of blank looks. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

If you are referring to home-type geothermic heating, it may be the 'language barrier'. In the U.S., they are referred to as 'heat pumps'.

I googled 'heat pump australia' and got 406,000 hits.

There may also be a more localized term for it.

I had a quote for geothermal heating (cooling) for the house I am building at present - $28,000 :( solar boosted trombe walls are looking good.

perhaps the "communication barrier" is the fact that underground it is usually around 18 degrees. In cold climates this 18 degrees is "WARM" so can be used to greatly reduce the heating requirements. In warm climates, 18 degrees would be considered "cool", so I doubt you would get "geothermic" heating in alot of australia. - (though cooling would be an option)

It may come as a surprise but over half of Australia lives south of Qld  so 18 degrees in winter is heating as the average daytime temp is well below this. The systems I looked at (from a comapany based in Melbourne) were sold as heating/cooling systems. The fact is they pump out 18 degree air year round, the rest is marketing.

I think that is more likely a geothermal heat pump guys...
