NSW Premier's response to climate change action... “There is no point in saving the planet if we ruin the economy doing it.” NSW Premier Morris Iemma From the Sustainable Population Australia Inc Newsletter March 07 available here: https://www.population.org.au/media/newslet/nl200703.pdf excellent, Sonya
yep got priorities, as we little people didn't conciously cause the so called problem, then we little folk have no control what so ever over the end result, the best thing we can do is get our 'houses' in order, and spend quality time with our families. len
I wonder if the premier realises how totally ridiculous that sounds... i mean, its practically amusing to think that well as long as we've got our precious econcomy, thats all that matters... never mind whether we actually have a planet where this economy could exist!! ridiculous. :? :-x
"There is no point saving my life if I ruin my job doing it." Um, I can get another job... What kind of economy do we have if we ruin the planet? I think the NSW Premier doesn't understand, "saving the planet" is, quite literally, doing things to keep us alive. He probably thinks it's about keeping some state forests for yuppies to drive their 4WDs through on Sundays. Perhaps he doesn't realise that if we harm the environment enough, then we won't have an economy. Try doing agriculture on salted land, or in a drought - no more agricultural exports. Try running a factory with no water, and no electricity because the fossil fuels ran out. Destroyed panet = ruined economy. If our economy cannot live with our planet, then we should get a new economy. Let's start with a new state Premier.
G'day All How much does another planet 'cost' anyway? Maybe we could pick up another one cheaply at an intergalatic garage sale? Ahhh, ya gotta love these pollies. Maybe this one thinks he can 'buy' he's way out of climate change??? I can't stop laughing. Oh my, the delusional state of these people knows no bounds. Solution: Keep working at the local level. Keep planting the 'seeds of change' in as many minds as you can. All we can then do is hope that enough of these seeds germinate and take root. What is the percentage mark for critical mass to occur again? I seem to remember it's more than 20? I reckon we are about half-way there. Keep up the great work fellow permies. It will all be worth it in the end (or will that be a new beginning?). Wishing you all much love and peace, Mark.
Oh, and another thing... perhaps Mr Iemma needs to understand, "...we live courtesy of an ECOLOGY, not and ECONOMY". (thanks to a fellow student for that one) Cheerio, Marko
