Hi, I thought some people may like to see a couple of photos of our Shaped Trees and the different building style that we are trying out.. Here is a photo of a living garden chair and living garden table Here is photo of me and my boy with a tree shaped to hold a plane of glass. Here is a photo of some of our tree men We have been doing a cubby house as a trail run in a differnt building style. https://www.calearth.org/cvillage/cvillage.htm is the website that we got most of our information about this style. We also brought a dvd about how to build this way as well..We are loving the act of building this way..We plan to put in compost toilets and an blacksmithing and jewerlly building then our home. Useing this style of building. Here is a photo of the cubby it is 3mt one way and 2mt the other. We have laid down 3 rows of bags at this stage.
Wow what an absolute Ripper idea.... Gee hope she dont se how i prune and train my Trees... Fantastic Imagination.and to think i was worried about doing a tunnel amongst my trees Tezza
what a fantastic idea! just beautiful. what kind of trees did you use? love the tree men! and the chair is great, is it strong enough to sit in. i'd love to one day have my own little hidey hole (like the cubby house) made out of trees. one day
My partner Pete thought of the idea of Shaping trees about 20 years ago. We use wild plum, but are now trying a few different types of trees out. Edit to add...the Chair is very strong, we wil use high grade leather for the seat.
Backlash! Wow! How cool is that? What a wonderful set of trees, tho I admit my most favoritest would have to be the chair! How is your earth bag house going? That sounds really exciting. We are having an earth bag workshop here in Belize with Kaki Hunter and Doni Kiffmeyer in March of next year, after the Permaculture Design Course with Toby Hemenway and Larry Santoyo. We hope to build a new dining room for the centre. So, as interesting as the trees are (and they are really interesting), I am also interested in your earth bag building. Could you please open another thread with info about your earth bag building? (please?)
yeah that's a good one, they look like there having a party ever blew up balloons in their heads and drew faces? maybe straw as wigs :laughing8:
Re: Tree Men Oh my goddness it been so long since I've posted. We were taking photos for our book the other day. While I was looking though the photos I found this cute photo that Pete took and I had to share. After see how long it been since I've posted I thought I show some up dated photos of the cubby... And it not finished yet  We have too many things to do and not enough time or not enough people to do it for us. These rocks will be for the kids to use once it finished or now This is Brin our boy who is four and half years old Looking down to the inside which is deeper than it looks from the outside Pete working on fixing the wire into place. This will be the entrance once the bags of form work have been removed
Re: Tree Men Great site with inspiring projects. I have often browsed around the treedome webpages adn related sites. Very encouraging. Regarding your cubbyhouse: what are the long bags? Paul El Salvador
Re: Tree Men Hi, We bought the continuous tubeing from bunaburg bags. It's the material used for horse feed bags just uncut. It great.
Re: Tree Men Bloody hell, how did I miss this... these are brilliant, bloody brilliant, ok ok, could we get some ideas and know how on how you join trees? you following a basic grafting process? have you thought about using big trees? Eucalyptus grandis grow well here and would look great using this idea. can you use most fast growing tree's? Any tips etc.. would be fantasic. Love the play house too. Baz
Re: Tree Men I belive it the basic gafting process. A guy were we have brought some of our young trees show our how to graft. We are try out black cheery tree they grow to 90feet or so. The speed of the tree is not the most important factor. If it to reamain living it ok to use a fast tree but for a havested piece the timber is too soft. Here a tip, do some small tests with the tree type that you are thinking of using. As to shaping tree, each tree has different quirks so do small things frist and learn how the tree will resond to the shaping. As use cutting or seedlings.
