Ok..lets see if I've got this worked out! This is the old avairy which is inside of a larger (13.5 x 27m) fenced area. It had a smallish concrete pond in a corner which I decided to dig up and fill in. Because the ground was just bare earth I threw heaps of grass cuttings/mulch in so they'd have something to scratch through. It has its own little 'hut'....I put a couple of boards up to stop the mulch being kicked into the dirt (dust bath) area. I wedge a board in so I could give them somewhere to sleep/lay eggs....checked on them last night and they were all snuggled in! We got five to start with....give them a few days and if all goes well will pick up another five. Once they've spent 5 or so days there I'll start to let them out during the day into the fenced area. Over the next couple of months I intend to plant heaps of forage plants in this area. I'll also be setting up a compost heap/worm farm against the end of their caged house and grow some vines along the sides. I have no idea what sort of chooks they are, didn't ask the guy I got them off, though I do know they're brown ones! Hmmm...ok, didn't work [/img]
Corny, can you go back in to your post and edit it so the link has been highlighted before clicking on the image button above. Otherwise, remove the '>' at the end of each link and type [/img] using your keypad. Thanks, Tam
Think I got it now. No roost yet...I want to extend the house to make a bit more room. At the moment they all cuddle up together. Think I will stick to just the five for the moment, until I start building the vege garden.
Hey Corny, I still can't view your images. It's asking for YOUR username and password! Don't just type the links into your post. You need to highlight the link (URL) then click on the IMG button above. This will then allow your photo to be viewed in your post. Alternatively, you need to set up your photo album so it's available for public viewing. Don't know how Rainbow Farmer saw them. (???????) Tam
Nope, sorry, tried again and still can't see them. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: Can someone else talk me through this problem? Thanks
Ok...will give it a go...opens ok for me though, am I'm not logged into it. Weird, but then when it comes to computers I'll better off making toast! Nope that didn't work
I have been looking forward to seeing corn's chook photos too. Rainbow, can you post the links, I cannot even see them in the thread anymore to edit them. Cheers Floot
This is just a test to see if it works cos I have a 'Village Photos' account too. Click on 'Copy URL' under the image you want to insert, in Village photos. Past the URL into this 'Post a Reply' box. https://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-7/1 ... icture.jpg Highlight the pasted URL. https://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-7/1054191/Picture.jpg then click on the 'Img' button above. Click on 'Submit'.
Yeps...I tried that Tam...wouldn't work for me, so gave up in frustration! PS: Thank you both for your efforts
Ahah! Forgot, that's why I stopped using firefox. (sorry all the firefox converts out there, I just couldn't be bothered with it) Good on you. I think the photos are loading up now. Tam
They're on of the hybidised commercial laying strains. Fantastic layers and cute little personalities. You'll get tons of eggs out of those girls. Good on you for taking the plunge into chooks. Tam
We've had five egss so far (two mornings), which is more than enough for just the two of us. They're quite placid birds....will leave them locked in for a couple more days then start letting them out into the larger area.
finally chooks Hi Corny..... have been waiting the arrival of your pics..... worth the wait.... Well done. One of my almost next projects is chooks – so I am very interested in pics of accommodations!.... They look like they will be avery happy at their Hilton....
Heuristics, Have you checked out 'City Chicken' website. That's got a chook tractor gallery! https://angelfire.com/falcon/thecitychicken/ Tam
