New to forum, have started into permaculture on my 2 acres about two years ago. I have several zones in the the works. I am currently working on water management on the high point of the property with water bars on the gravel drives feeding micro swales for erosion control and planting. I am also working on a zone 1 garden build that a chicken is working first in a tractor. Progress made up til now is micro swales with 30 fruit trees mulched deep with wood chips and a small hugelkulture with herb garden and peach and fig and blackberries. Asparagus in wood chip garden with annuals. Roses on east side of house and blueberries. Water storage at highest corner of house gutter with 275 gal tote and 55 gallon barrel overflow. End goal is to have all zones planted out with perennial focus.

    Hi and.....wow!!
Sounds like you have been real busy.
Is there a particular reason why you have your artichokes in wood chip? I have never heard of this before.

Do you mean the asparagus? It comes back stronger every year in the wood chips. Wood chips have been invaluable to weed control and prepping garden areas. I was lucky there was a crew across the road from me working and I had them dump all chips on my property. Wood chips cover my high side on the micro swales as well and it gives me more time to plant them.

Do you know anyone with chestnut or hazelnut? Thanks for the question.

    Hi Danny and welcome,
how did you make your water bars? I haven't been able to keep mine from filling up quickly with gravel and tree litter. Do you need to clean yours often?
