Anyone taken blueberry cuttings like to share some tips ? I have done heaps of azaleas in Melbourne successfully Blueberry seems similar??? I only have one plant so don't have too much room for error
Blueberries typically require 2 varieties for cross pollination. Soft wood cuttings, spring are the best, but sometimes half ripe wood cuttings summer, will take. Take the cutting and place in a well drained potting mix. Cover with a plastic bag secured by a rubber band or tape. Give 6-12 weeks in a shady location for new growth and root formation to occur. Plant into final location fall thru spring. If you expect a mild winter then fall is the best time to plant. If you expect a cold winter then plant in spring. This will give the plant time to get establish before the harsh summer begins.
Really? Don't tell my highbush blueberries that since I only have 1 variety, but multiple plants. Then again, I have numerous plants in various stages of pollination all through the year, so I really wonder if it is based on variety, or just pollination.
I have never found the right blueberry varieties for my climate! But this might help https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s789952.htm
Thanks everyone I will wait till winter. Im new to this subtropical gardening lark,I've spent too much time gardening in the temperate zone. My plant is a single plant and it fruited profusely for months, you should be able to get a variety for NSW they grow heaps in Coffs Harbour and my one is doing real well in central Qld.
