I've searched the net for hours but I just can't seem to find any information on this. Does anyone have any thoughts around the safety of using Colorbond roofing to collect rainwater for drinking? Is modern-day Colorbond pretty safe? I realise there are tried and tested safe roofing materials out there (like terracotta tiles) but I want to see if anyone has any persuasive objections to using Colorbond.

I thought old Galv was the problem because it had lead in it.
Colourbond is cooked on paint over zincalume.

I drink my rain water of a colourbond roof
Im more worried about bird poo on the roof than the actual roof

According to the local dealer, Colorbond metal roofing is a powdercoated over zincalume product and is safe for water collection systems. I've been talking to the local dealer about the best product he sells for our water collection system needs. He showed me the fact sheets on the bare zincalume and the Colorbond and both are safe for water collection systems. If you set up with a bypass system for the first five to ten minutes of a rain, the water should not have much contamination from roof debris (bird poop). We run ours through a filter system and treat the tanks with chlorine bleach once a month. We also have the tanks darkened to prevent algae blooms.

    I dont chlorinate
Have a duel filter system under sink
If it dont kill you it makes you stronger
I find it hard to travel because my water tastes so good.

That sounds sweet Grasshopper. We wouldn't chlorinate if that pesky algae didn't grow so fast. I'm hoping I won't have to do any now that the tanks are out of all sunlight and once I get the second filter installed inline. I know what you mean about the taste of the water.
