    Hi all,

I'm after some BSF larvae but I haven't found any available.

Does anyone have any or know of anyone who does?

I'm located in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.

    Cheers,

    Ryan.

I just have them growing everywhere, in the compost bin in the stink soup fertiliser and in the worm farm if I dont close the lid properly.
Have you tried attracting them ?

Put some food scraps in a bucket and wait. They'll find you.

I am all for free stuff so try this link. https://blacksoldierflyblog.com/black-soldier-fly-white-magic/#7
It might cost a little to set up but should work fine. Not sure if it is too cold for them down there though. Someone asked me about them once and if I posted them to Sydney as she couldn't attract them down there either.

They will only eat fresh fruit and veg. Worms will only eat rotting foods. What are you feeding them to?

I have tried attracting them but maybe it is too cold down here or maybe they are active only in Melbourne during the warmer months.

Nice link Brian...kept me looking busy at work today!

Well done mate. You didn't say why you wanted them.

Can anyone tell me at roughly which month that black soldier flies become active in Sydney?

I have made a bin to attract and harvest the larvae. I have got some food rotting in there to attract the flies and am wondering when I am going to see it come alive with grubs.

Best thing we used was 'used coffee grains'. Just ask a local cafe. We would get a couple bags a day. The weather needs to hot, so we don't see them thriving in Brisbane until October/November.
Once you get them, you can add meat scraps/fats and expired milk. They go nuts for it. They don't work well with worms, and tend to take over the worm farm.
