Hi, My name is Morena, and I live in Bundaberg QLD, along with my husband and two boys aged 14 and 9. We moved here from Sydney's suburbs about 5 years ago, to try to lead a simpler, more relaxed lifestyle. It wasn't until about a year ago that I discovered this 'Permaculture' thing, and that kickstarted my love of all things growing! We are in the middle of searching for our dream home, where we would like to become ALMOST self sustainable. I say almost because we are both not ready to raise our own meats (besides chicken) and so we are planning on starting off with as many different fruits and vegetables as possible. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge from this site and these forums Cheers!
Greetings Morena and welcome, No worries about growing your own meats ... we have plenty of locals to do that for us in exchange (for various things including money). We are also able to source our manure from these same folks. Looking forward to following along with your projects!
There is a very large group of 'Rare Fruit' growers in Bundaburg , would be worth your while seeking them out and joining the group .
Thank you 9anda1f, I will do aroideana, I have heard of this group actually, I think one of my clients is a member, I will ask her how to join, thank you!
Hi Aroideana and Morena I'm new to the Bundaberg area and would be interested in this rare fruit growers group. I haven't been able to find a contact through a google search. Is there a facebook group or contact either of you could share?
Hi Richard and welcome! I found this old newsletter (2013) https://www.rarefruitaustralia.org/site/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Grapevine-2013-Oct-MID-RES1.pdf that has contact information for the president at that time ... plus it mentioned Rare Fruit Australia, Inc. Searching on that got me to this: https://www.rarefruitaustralia.org/contacts/ I believe that you'll be wanting to contact Jenny at the Hinkler branch.
Thanks Bill, I've just been in contact with the group and found a tree nursery and others. My mother was a Kearns, from Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Cheers Richard
