1. search engine is missing, or limited (the advanced search is still there but it's pretty hard to find) 2. I can see only a short page of my posts going back to the beginning of August. I can't find any older comments or posts I have made, unless I use the search engine (assuming I can find it). 3. the header is far too big (takes up a whole screen). 4. there needs to be a New Posts link somewhere that's just off the top of my head. Feel free to add others (numbering is useful as it gives each big a reference point).
5. I appear to have just unapproved a whole thread. Not going to say how in public, but this was brought up the other day too (members having some admin rights). This would rate as a high level, PRIORITY BUG.
6. Lastest Activity tab doesn't show all the latest activity. Not sure what it's trying to show, it looks pretty random. It it threads started rather than comments posted?
Namaste, This should help with regards to image / browser sizes. https://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp Currently, you are running images at 1600 pixels wide when the majority of the planet is running at 1366 pixels wide) 2 things to remember... IE which there is a lot of code for is no longer supported by Microsoft and is a haven for hackers. Same goes for "Flash" which thankfully you no longer use. Lastly, I keep being told I have messages when I do not.
I think the messages count reflects replies and followups to posts, so check your settings and turn them off if you don't want them to appear in the count. i did this yesterday and that seems to have gotten rid of the strange counter value.
7. the new messages function is broken (Pak's comment) 8. members have lost the location/climate info attached to their name at the side of post (pretty crucial on a permaculture forum) 9. some links in comments to previous threads are broken (not sure if that's a new bug, or from one of the times that the domain name changed).
Tried to log in during a thread on page 1 of the Plants section, wound up on Page 2 very confused. Also, when making a reply it said I had done so in the last 5 mins when that was utterly wrong.
I was some how able to see that I can manage posts, you really want me doing that? I sure don't want the responsibility.
Thanks Pak, This new forum software actually checks with the Stop Forum Spam database for known/reported spam IP addresses, email addresses, and usernames. However some spammers have not made the database yet ... We've also enabled the question/answer + captcha for registration. Even in the face of all this, some spam will get through so thanks for your vigilance.
wasn't the old forum on a system of the first post was always held back until approved? And that was brought in that time when the site got inundated with spam?
I Agree with pebble on point 8 that is made. The climate details of members is crucial and is lost now. Also it seems that the forum now works great on google, but the whole permaculture news web page is still in limbo on internet explorer; i.e. nothing with regards to permaculturenews.org is updating on my internet explorer 11.0.23.
Thanks for the reminder Grant (and Pebble). I've added the user field and made it "required" for new users. However, existing users will need to edit their profiles to show climate info. I'll check out the IE issues asap.
Bill, I think with the new forum software much of what is in this Section no longer applies (not just this thread but many others too)... Alas, I cannot delete or edit threads and I'm pretty sure you'd not want me to anyways, but just seems worth a mention that most people who come here looking for information are going to be getting out of date stuff...
It's a bug reporting thread, one would expect things at the top of the thread to get out of date (with any luck ;-) Bill, the character limit on decribing our climate is a bit small. Currently set to 35. Would it hurt to have it longer? 50 or 60? Any chance you can prevent people using USDA zones there? (sorry Songbird). Just kidding, but I live in a country where people don't speak that language much and many people don't know what they mean.
Grantvdm: I have been unable to see any anomalies using IE (version 11.0.24) Have you tried clearing your cache? Which IE version are you using? Songbird: Yes, lots of useless stuff. Maybe I can archive it somehow, will check. Pebble: Climate character limit is now 60. The USDA "Plant Hardiness" Zones indicate temperature zones in the USA but not really climate. Personally I prefer the Koppen-Geiger system (worldwide mapping) but I haven't yet seen any way to guide members towards that. Chapter 5 of the Designer's Manual would be the ideal starting point to define the climate for a specific area.
shall we use it as an opportunity to write some new forum intros, how tos etc? We could write one on climate too. I think it's useful skill to be able to describe one's climate succinctly. Thanks for upping the character limit.
