Hill Top Farm - working with nature

Hill Top Farm is an organic farm, designed using permaculture principles. We run small residential courses catering for all levels of experience and interest. Hill Top Farm is located just outside Cooktown in far north Queensland.

Hi Wendy, Dave Mattinson from the EFGD. How did you go with the chicken forage system you were working on.

    Good to see you here!

Hi David, the permaculture chook forage system is coming along. I have posted a detailed aritcle on the design rationale i have used (hilltopfarm.wix.com/beyondsustainability#!Hill-Top-Farm-Article-Creating-poultry-forage-systems/cesr/92ED2350-2BAC-40AF-B212-0B9BC86D8DC0).
It has been challenging with the long dry season and developing perennial ground covers, but starting to get a canopy happening which will ameleroate the microclimate. Looks great, Wendy.

I found your No-mower guide a great read too. You should share I here for others in the same climate. Its a great use of Dave's design method for tropical environments.

    Keep up the good work!

    No Mowers Food Grower's Guide

Dave the 'No Mowers Food Grower's Guide' can be downloaded as a PDF from https://www.remoteindigenousgardens.net/gardening-resources/

The No-mower Food Grower’s Guide to designing edible landscapes in the Wet- Dry Tropics
Wendy Seabrook with John Brisbin and Roger Goebel

This handbook takes you through a simple design process to retrofit or design new edible landscapes working more with nature. The steps can be used by people developing community gardens, orchards, market gardens and back gardens. Whether you simply would like to build more ecological functions into your system or go further, creating edible landscapes mimicking natural vegetation communities in your area.

This publication was made possible through the Healthy Communities Bloomfield Track Initiative funded by the Australian Government. Supported by Cook Shire Council and the Gungarde Community Centre.
