    Hi Pebble,
    Yes, above ground and the large surface area may be the cause of the drying out. I do think that sinking it deeper and also extending a very heavy mulch out from the bed on all sides would help. This silt has amazing capillary action and can draw moisture upwards to be evaporated quite well. We'll be getting pics of the whole adventure up on the website soonest.
