I put yams n water spinach in containers with just water. How do I fertilize these? It seems to be easy to just keep them in water. This is wet tropics but we have a dry spell now.

When you say water spinach do you mean ipomea aquatic aka kang kong? I add the leachate from my worm farm to the water every so often and it seems to like that.

Get some worms info at Brians website he is a regular here . https://briansworms.com/

Build a simple Aquaponic system with a few pet fish you can grow lots in a small space .

Yes you can even use a bit of urine , seasol , iron chelate , calcium and potassium in the same system and grow plenty with no fish

Thank you to all. I am afraid I will kill the fish n if there is smell coming from the water my family will make noise as the kang kong pot is in my kitchen. So am going to experiment with urin first . Hope it does not smell. .....

It might put the pH out. Compost tea from your new compost pile would do the trick. Put a few handfuls of compost in a bucket and let it soak. If you want to get fancy buy a fish tank aerator and bubble water through it to get the bacteria kicking along. Water the plants with the resulting brew.
