Competely electric 40km range, sells in Japan for less than $4000. The energy that is takes to make the bike was minimised as well.

Sure, but alot cheaper than a car, and sometimes you don't have time to walk.

40 km range is a bit more than a bicycle depending on you Btu the real disatvantage is that you cannot transport neither a person nor things and you are not protected in the rain.
You know what"car" I would like to have?
There should be 4 seats (2 smaller) 4 possibilities to pedal, supported by electric (solar) energy, an unfoldable PV-loader.
It would be sufficient if it runs around 30-40 km per hour is you pedal well.
Do you know anybody who is constructing a thing like this?

    Hi All

I have talking to a friend of mine about converting a rx7 into a hydrogen powered car, he is a aerospace engineer and has far to many brain cells for my liking.

The Mazda RX rotary engine is suited better for hydrogen than piston engines. The system would revolve around creating hydrogen in the car through an electric process and having a small hydrogen reservoir tank which the engine draws from.

Once the shed goes in we will have a place to work on it.

While I wait for the crew to assemble for Wednesday Night at the Movies (onights Feature Presentation: "Empire of the Sun", with a first viewing of "Backyard Aquaponics" :wav: ), I will answer what I think Dani is referring to.

It takes 1 kwh(kilowatt hour) of electricity to hydrolyze .5 kwh worth of hydrogen. Converting that hydrogen back to electricity is only %50 efficient... at best. Converting 1kwh ti.25 kwh with hydrogen is, well, a waste of time.

However, making hydrogen with solar panels or wind turbines is a good way to use your excess power... if you have excess.

That along the lines of what you are talking about, Dani?

Water is split into Hydrogen and Oxygen
Oxygen is cleverly combined with aluminum
Hydrogen is collected and sprayed in a standard carburetor like with methane-gas.
A 900 Kilo car runs 600 Kilometer on 20 liter water and 1 kilo aluminum.
Clean energy, once put in Aluminum at 1$/Kg, refining Bauxite, is released here first making oxygen inoffensive.

The design is lightly based on this, it's not perfect but it's worth playing with in out spare time. Me thinks
