I have discovered an ants nest in my compost heap.
Would this cause any problems with the rotting or is this a good thing to have?

I would think that your heap is too dry, Graslands. Ants would not want to live in a pile that is moist enough to wring out when squeezed. The ants themselves are no problem but the moisture may well be unless they are on the outside of the heap. We do get some ants - often green ants, the buggers - living on the edge of a heap if there is some wet weather around.

Yeah if they are on teh outside then its not really an issue but i wouldn't want them making a nest. If they are, it obviously isn't hot enough either. Maybe add some more manure. That will get the heap going.
