Not sure how seriously I can take someone who thinks the third ethic is about communism or socialism, with the implication that socialism is Evil or equated with poverty.

I often wonder if some of those US permies agin the 3rd ethic are aware of exactly where permaculture originated.

I think Permaculture has done pretty well given it has only been around for one less than one human lifetime, so many corporations, governments and technology are against it. We are trying to run “Permaculture” on very old hardware to do really complicated calculations with guidelines that are often very incomplete - but it is better than nothing and we have to do something. Eventually all cultures will have to adopt and incorporate permaculture if they are going to survive but unfortunately the cultures that don’t could make life even harder for the cultures that do by stuffing up the climate and causing pollution etc.

I think this question is linked to “What is holding humans back?” and also “What is the ideal habitat for a human?” The answers to these are quite complicated but the second question about habitat is really interesting. No habitat in the world had to have humans present and almost all eco system have had humans imposed on them.
If we are modifying systems to suit our needs then probably cities are the most extreme example however there are serious issues arising that might make cities extremely uncomfortable for future occupants.

Personally I would really like to see permaculture fill in the gaps, optimise its usefulness and deliver on more of its potential and like with other parts of science, make a few big leaps to really make it clear how good it is.

    U.S. Permies -

    a species unto themselves?

    multikulti permakulti?

there seems to be so many permacultures around these days - i don't know which one if any is mine.

the american permaculture seems to have that annoying 'laugh track' thing they are partial to, going on all the way through it.

and the pom permaculture needs benny hill music and the film sped up.

Interesting comment. I'm an American raised amongst the laughers and was taught by a Benny Hill speed singing POM.

    LOL
