    Good point. Are chooks scavengers in the wild? Fresh road kill then, or through the maggot factory.

    If Chickens have a lot of insects to eat such as crickets grasshoppers etc , then do they need grit?
    If fed "grains and seeds then is grit such as oystershell a "must" ?
    or is it best just having access to shell or grit all the time ?

    Oystershell is for calcium but no good for grinding down grains in the gizzard. All nicely explained at the link below.
