chufa - cyperus esculentus

    Had anyone tried to plant chufa? I put some seeds in and see how it goes. It might be a bit fiddly in the kitchen though.

    I'm growing it in my aquaponics system. Have not harvested any tubers yet.

    I got my tubers from https://jlhudsonseeds.net/ not sure if they ship overseas.....

    Yes, you have to be careful because it can be invasive apparently. The main use of chufa tubers is apparently in the production of a drink called "horchata" popular in Spain and Mexico https://www.popsynth.com/horchata.htm

    The tubers can be toasted and eaten as a snack or added to other foods.

    The main problem I see with it in my own situation is it may not be hardy through our winters (US Zone 8).

    Tastes exactly like almond! I love it. Very rich and probably one of the easiest "nuts" you could possibly grow!
    Can become invasive though, or from seed or by running (like running bamboo) I suppose, so keep it where you know it can't escape.
