Default Hi from the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia

    Hi guys and girls.

I love on 30ish acres in the Latrobe Valley (home of that wonderful concentrated solar energy we common refer to as brown coal). Right now I have a small herd of Angus cattle, but I plan on moving away from them over the next few years to a number of smaller species (goats/sheep/pigs) and a lot of vegies for our own consumption. I also know a little about keeping bees.

I am coming to permaculture from the Jack Spirko / Paul Wheaton "homesteading" perspective. I have recently adopted a paleo diet, and have never felt more alive.

I am planning on attending the PDC in September with Geoff Lawton and Bill Mollison

I'd have a young family and a full time job, so progress is slow, but I hope that through these folks I might be able to meet up with some folks who are further along the path than I am.

G'day Phil! Welcome to our little community. You'll get a lot out of your PDC. Be prepared for Bill though.....

Thanks for the welcome. You can't leave me hanging with that comment though. What exactly do I need to be prepared for? Does he practice corporal punishment for inattentiveness?

    G'day philbert

    Welcome to the PRI Forum.

Beautiful part of the world you are living in (desalination and power plants aside).

Nah... probably more like a verbal reprimand.

Learn and share heaps, and have fun!

I do live in a nice part of the world, although the urban sprawl of Traralgon is visible from my place (nothing that patience and some blackwoods can't help with though).

The most awful part about living here is the pewtrid smell from the Maryvale paper mill, which can carry a long way on wet day like today. Oh, and I suppose the Toorak Ted might decide to compulsorily acquire my place so he can sell the brown coal under it.

Like Markos implied - he has a reputation for having a very sharp tongue. And teaches by telling stories that many feel lack a distinct point to them. But - the man is a living legend so I figure we get to cut him some slack. He is probably bored mindless having to answer the same twee questions from reporters and mindless pubescent green warrior types (not saying that you are like that!) and entertains himself by having a go at their expense.

Yes it does - after 3 posts are approved. It protects against endless iPhone ads and Russian porn...

Mollison sounds like an entertainin' fella - can't wait! Reminds me of something Paul Wheaton said about how good and generous people are worn down to a curmudgeonly core by the idiot-borne erosion.

Thanks for the clarification about moderating new members - I thought it might have been something like that, but I couldn't find anything to the effect in the "start here" sticky.
