Hello all. I'm gratified to find this thread re the dreaded CSG scurge... It is everywhere. I'm sort of in the middle of Murwillumbah, Lismore and Casino, so our area has seen lots of activism in recent months... Well, for ages, really. As soon as we all found out what was happening up North in QLD, because some of their battle weary have moved down here thinking this may be the last real stronghold (just given our reputation ) we started taking to the streets, first with support of the brilliant Lock the Gate strategy and now with CSG-free Northern Rivers actions. We've been busy surveying our own areas... my own little village came up with 98.7% of people who oppose csg and want their land to remain csg-free.. Whilst visiting the currently under attack Glenugie, near Grafton, the enthusiastic Greens member visiting on the day said quite earnestly that if we could make a convincing enough stand in Northern Rivers, specifically at Glenugie itself, and also in Sydney's west, we could stop this insanity. It would just cost them too much, delaying them for too long. The Glenugie protestors have been holding watch at Glenugie for weeks now, and as more and more people realise the full truth of this horror, more are coming forward to add strength to the csg-opposition... It si truly heartwarming to watch. Those with pecuniary interests are actually fabricating information (just for a change, hoho) re protestor behaviour, bomb scares and etc, because they are desperate. The Government can't keep backing this unnaceptable industry, especially given the ICACs investigations into he who issued mining licenses in the first place. If we act as one, and stay strong, the handling of this issue could be the beginning of something really beautiful. To my way of thinking, that is what the 21/12/12 or 12/21/12 (depending on your whereabouts) end time is all about. The end of all things that reduces the magic of the world, and the birth of all things which support that same magic... Clean food, air, water and self sufficiency is the essence of permaculture, huh? Let's get out there and lock more gates... (CSG-free Northern Rivers is a great site to help you get started locking your own area... )

It could not be more Orwellian. Barry O'Farrell's government has triumphed in reducing funding for legal aid, community legal centres and the Environmental Defenders Office.
Miraculously it has badged this initiative as ''greater access to justice for the disadvantaged''.

Behind it all is a carefully concocted scheme to get rid of legal challenges to ministerial decisions approving new mining ventures, in particular coal mines and coal-seam gas projects.
